If you’re lacking hot water in your shower, Mr. Kistel on YouTube demonstrates how to repair the hot water by removing and replacing the shower valve cartridge. This is a very instructional video that is very helpful to save money instead of hiring someone to fix it. You’d have to replace the shower valve cartridge to get hot water again. The process can be simple, but removing the old cartridge may be difficult. I love how realistic this tutorial is because if you follow step by step, this should be quick and easy. The pace of this demonstration was nice and thorough.
- Allen key
- Phillips screwdriver
- needlenose pliers
- Moen replacement cartridge
- Cartridge Removal Tool (Puller)
- steel wool
First, turn off the water for the shower or turn off the water in the entire house to make it simple. Turn the water on to get rid of any remaining water out. Use an Allen key to remove the shower handle off. Then, remove the shower plate off too. Continue to watch Mr. Kistel tutorial on YouTube for full instructions and details.
Next, once the old shower valve cartridge is removed, use steel wool to clean out any debris from the inside of the shower valve hole. Grease the seals of the valve cartridge and place the new one in the same way. Put the shower handle and pieces back on.
Overall, this is a great tutorial if you need help to fix the shower where the hot water is broken. It’s a helpful bathroom tip and hack if you don’t want to spend the extra money hiring someone else. However, it would be nice and try this method on your own in case this happens in the future with other shower tubs.
